Decanting
Service wine term
The process of pouring wine from its bottle into a decanter to aerate the wine and separate it from any sediment.
Why it matters
Decanting helps improve the wine's flavor by allowing it to 'breathe,' releasing aromas and softening tannins, especially in young, robust wines. It also helps remove sediment that may have formed in older wines.
